Sage earns Workplace Health Achievement honor – Campus News

The results of the 2021 American Heart Association Workplace Health Achievement Index were recently announced, and Russell Sage College was awarded a Bronze for taking important steps to build a culture of health and wellbeing for its workforce.

Sage’s Thrive @ Russell Sage initiative has helped them stand out.

Since its launch in 2020, Thrive has offered programs focused on the individual, social, and environmental well-being of Sage employees, students, and alumni.

Highlights included an expert panel on mass vaccinations; Positive Psychology seminar with renowned psychologist, educator, and author Martin Seligman; monthly online Wellness Wednesday presentation on a health related topic; and online and personal meditation and fitness classes.

Thrive also collaborates on curriculum initiatives with Sage undergraduate and graduate programs, and has formed a working group to pursue sustainability accreditation from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.

Other health and well-being-related initiatives at the college include a new basketball court, fitness center, and plans for an outdoor fitness track on the Sage’s Albany campus.

“I am proud of Sage and this recognition from the American Heart Association for prioritizing health and well-being,” said Joanne Clifford, senior director of alumni relations and CEO of the Russell Sage College Alumnae Association, which coordinates wellness Wednesdays and appointed Sage. In honor of the Heart Association. “I am grateful to work for an organization committed to supporting the physical and mental health of its workforce.”

The American Heart Association created the Health Workplace Achievement Index with the CEO of the Roundtable, a collaborative leadership of more than 45 members from some of America’s largest companies. The Index is a web-based scorecard that evaluates the overall quality and comprehensiveness of a company’s workplace health program.

The honor from the Heart Association is the second time that Russell Sage College has been honored for employee health initiatives in 2021. Earlier this year, Sage was named to the Albany Business Review’s Healthiest Employer List.
